Middlesex Golf and its associated clubs illustrate many and varied types, styles and eras of the game. This series endeavours to highlight the infinite variety of golf clubs, their golf courses and an extremely diverse community of golfers, to those who are, and will, play the Royal and Ancient game of Golf within the County of Middlesex.

The author of these historical pieces, Lee Patterson, is a member and Past Captain of Stanmore Golf Club. During his 45 years of playing and watching golf, he has played a wide variety of the game in many places. Lee enjoys an eclectic interest in the history of the game with a particular focus on golf development in the London area, this interest includes its clubs, their personalities and the golf course architecture of the Metropolis.

At Middlesex Golf, we are dedicated to growing the game of golf and our work benefits 32 affiliated golf clubs and over 10,000 of individually affiliated members.

Our main aims are to further the interests of the game of golf. Our activities include:

• Promote equality, diversity, inclusivity and an "all welcome" ethos
• Manage a uniform system of handicapping by means of the World Handicapping System.
• Provide Course Rating to affiliated clubs.
• Manage annual County Championships & meetings.
• Run 9 Teams playing inter-county matches across all age groups.
• Provide referees for all major competitions.
• Provide coaching for elite squads.
• Support development of under represented groups across all affiliated clubs.
• Provide volunteering opportunities for individuals who wish to develop their knowledge of golf and to assist us in all of our activities.
• We are part of the South Eastern Golf Union, promoting elite Amateur golf in the South East Region.
• We are also part of the Womens South Region, promoting golf for Women in Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight & the Channel Islands
