Scoring
One Game Point shall be scored for each individual win or walkover whether in foursomes or singles. Individual games all square after 18 holes shall score half a Game Point.
Each county shall score two Match Points for a win and one Match Point for a match halved with another county.
The winning county shall be the county with the highest number of "Match Points‟. In the event of a tie on "Match Points‟, the result will be determined by the total "Game Points‟ won. If still tied, the result will be determined by the result of the match between the tied counties. If still tied, the results of individual matches between the two counties will be used in the following order until one county is ahead: 1st singles match; 2nd singles match; 3rd singles match; 1st foursomes match; 2nd foursomes match. Should there still not be a clear winner the result shall be decided by lot.
Stovold Trophy
The 2nd team represent Middlesex in the Stovold Trophy, played between the Counties of Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire.
Six players are selected for each team, to play three foursomes games in the morning followed by six singles matches in the afternoon.
Each year a different County has responsibility for managing the Trophy and in 2024 it was Middlesex's turn. This year it is turn of Sussex to collate & manage the results. Below you can view all matches and the current league status.

SURREY vs MIDDLESEX
Match report for 25th July 2025Middlesex 2nd Team vs Surrey 0-9
Middlesex 2nd team faced a Surrey team of great talent and youth at Tandridge GC. Whilst we did not gain a point in this match we enjoyed playing a superb course, in excellent condition, in a friendly atmosphere and great weather; not to forgetting really good food and service in the clubhouse.
The handicap range of the team Surrey fielded was +0.5 - 3.9 it a great achievement that two of our matches finished on the 16th and 17th.

SUSSEX vs MIDDLESEX
Match report for 21st July 2025 Sussex vs Middlesex 2nds
Middlesex 2nd team returned to Ifield GC after a gap of several years to face a strong Sussex team with 4 out of their 6 having handicaps well below our team. Threats of rain almost had Sara the Sussex captain calling to postpone the fixture and everyone had bags full of waterproofs and umbrellas ready only to play the entire match bathed in sunshine. All three of the morning foursomes were lost, and a single win in the afternoon singles. Our single point was won by Susanne Buettner who was making her Middlesex debut, so we are hopeful she will be repeating this feat again and again….
Final result = Sussex 8 Middlesex 1. Although the score doesn't reflect how well our team played, we all enjoyed the day. Thanks to our hosts.
The matches were all played in good spirits and our post match tea was full of good banter and camaraderie. We look forward to hosting Sussex next season.

WOMEN’s 2nd TEAM vs Hampshire 03/08/2025
Middlesex 1½ vs Hampshire 7½
On a day that had threatened lots of rain, but delivered only a small amount, Middlesex 2nd team faced aHampshireteam who had come from as far away as the Isle of Wight. With only 1 senior in their side and handicaps ranging from 0.5 to 7.7 they triumphed over Middlesex 7.5 – 1.5. I was quite delighted we managed a win in the morning and a half in the singles, but more than anything else that each member of the team had a fun time playing. The Hampshire ladies enjoyed playing atHighgatewhose greens complexes continue to be fabulous.
Thanks to Hampshire for being formidable opponents and thanks to our team for battling so bravely. Lastly, thanks as ever to Highgate GC for being fantastic hosts. Our visitors loved the course.

Hampshire 7 Middlesex 2
Our match against Hampshire was played at Army Golf Club in Farnborough. The weather was favourable, warm and sunny but not too hot. Ines and Liz played a practice round late on Sunday afternoon which proved helpful for all the Middlesex team; Nicola Foster, Mandy Miller, Ines Hellmayr, Elaine Cole, Lorely Paine and Liz Kynoch.
The morning session saw Nicola and Mandy gain a point with a 3 and 2 win against Lily Walker and Georgia Richardson off 1.3 and 2.1 - a super result. Ines and Elaine were 1 down to Georgina Carter and Abby Dymott off 3.2 and 7.9. Lorely Paine and Liz Kynoch lost 3 and 5 to Becky Scott and Tia Brammer off 3.5 and 5.1.
The afternoon singles saw Middlesex gain a single point from Mandys win against Georgina Carter. Another great result against a player with a much lower handicap.
It was a pleasure to play against some very good golfers, even if it’s a bit traumatising to know their 13 year old 2 handicapper could easily be the Middlesex Captains granddaughter!
Hampshire were welcoming hosts with Eilean Cunningham the Hampshire Captain ensuring the day went smoothly.
We will soon agree a date for next years fixture in Middlesex.

The Mulligan Larsen Trophy
The Senior Women’s Inter-County Scratch League for the South Region plays for the Mulligan Larsen trophy which is presented at the end of season jamboree event in October.
Matches take place from May to September and every county plays each other county, the fixture alternating between home and away every year. Currently the competing counties are Essex, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex, with Hampshire joining us in 2024.
Responsibility for collecting the results and running the end of season jamboree and trophy presentation rotates around the counties and it is Middlesex’s turn in 2024.

On Tuesday 17th September, the Middx Senior Friendly Team went South to the vast open fairways of Farleigh Golf Club just below Croydon. Quite a trip if you live in North London. We were received by a very friendly and hospitable Surrey team, the weather was beautiful and it was an enjoyable day for everyone. After some very competitive matches, the day resulted in a draw.
The Middx team was comprised of: Ruth Holmes, Heather Graydon, Veronica Bane, Jane Lees, Magdalena Donovan (first time in the team), Lucy Bidmead, Alice Arnold and Carolyn Matthews
