Thursday 29th May - Mulligan Larsen match against Surrey at Wyke Green
The Middlesex Senior Team played it’s first Mulligan Larsen match of the 2025 season against a strong Surrey at Wyke Green. It proved to be a challenging start, with Surrey fielding a team whose highest handicap was still lower than our lowest. Despite a valiant effort from our players, we lost the match 1:5.
A huge congratulations goes to Tsuruko, who made an outstanding debut, securing our only win of the day against a +0.9 handicapper. An impressive achievement!. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Altynay, who showed great resilience by playing her first match for Middlesex under difficult circumstances— her clubs were stolen over the weekend, and she had to compete with a partly
borrowed set. That couldn’t have been easy. Our “Wyke Green force” – Lorely, Elaine, and Alice – gave it everything, pushing their matches to holes 15, 16, and 17 respectively. While they didn’t come out on top, their determination and fighting spirit were commendable.
Individual results:
Tsuruko Kawabata won v Tana Churchill 2 up
Ines Hellmayr lost v Maggie Lowe 5/3
Lorely Paine lost v Katie Sheperd 3/2
Elaine Cole lost v Maria Diegan 2/1
Alice Arnold lost v Belinda Pope 5/3
Altynay Davletova lost v Karen Francis 8/7

Thursday 26th June - Mulligan Larsen match against Hampshire at Hartley Wintney
The Middlesex Senior Team enjoyed a warm welcome and a beautifully hosted day at Hartley Wintney for their third match of the season against a strong Hampshire side. Despite the tricky course and tough competition, there were some standout performances. Lorely delivered a
confident and composed win over Ailsa Fraser, clearly at ease on the course. Tsuruko put up a valiant fight, taking reigning English Senior Amateur champion Kerry Smith all the way to the 17th hole.
While the overall result didn’t go our way, we lost 1:5, the team showed great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Middlesex Senior Women's Friendly Team
Middx ladies Senior Friendly Team played against Buckinghamshire on 18th June. Chiltern Forest is in a spectacular setting in the Chiltern Hills, overlooking the Vale of Aylesbury. The sky was very blue and the temperature very high, so it was quite a challenge to work our way around all the hills and slopes. We had a good match, with some excellent golf played. Our team players were Marie Bowen, Heather Graydon, Clare Brown, Claire Kent, Caroline Brookes, Cheryl Smyth, Lilly Lian and Carolyn Matthews. The score ended up 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 to Buckinghamshire.

MIDDLESEX WOMEN'S SENIORS vs BERKSHIRE, (away)
Match report 15th July, 2025
Our team for the friendly match against Berkshire, which was held at Royal Ascot Golf Club, was comprised of Angela Spelman, Shreya Divani, Claire Kent, Vivian Gray, Arlene Bailey, Liz Kynoch, Lucy Bidmead and Carolyn Matthews. The skies were quite threatening, but we only had a few minutes of rain. The fairways were noticeably lacking irrigation, but this did lead to the ball running and running! We had an enjoyable afternoon, but sadly we were defeated 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.

MIDDLESEX WOMEN'S SENIOR vs HERTFORDSHIRE (Home)
The seniors held their final friendly match of the year which took place on one of the windier days of the Summer so far at Sudbury Golf Club. The course was in remarkably good condition and was greatly enjoyed by both Middx and Herts. The conclusion of the season brought Middx success with a 3-1 win over Herts. Our team today had one newcomer, Jinny Lee Kim, in addition to Heather Graydon, Angela Spelman, Vivian Gray, Cheryl Smith, Lucy Bidmead and Carolyn Matthews.

Friday 19th July Mulligan Larsen match against Sussex at Royal Ashdown Forest
Our fourth match of 2024 took us to the splendid Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club. We arrived the Saturday before our game for a practice round and had a delightful day. The hospitality was outstanding. I discovered that Lulu’s grandfather, Rowand Harker, served as the club captain in 1924. Lulu’s mother, Pauline Harker, was introduced to golf at a young age at this golf club and later wrote a book titled “The Long and the Short of It” about her lessons with Archie Compston. Below is a picture of Pauline at age 15, and it’s clear where Lulu inherited her impressive swing.
We also had a fantastic match day against a formidable Sussex team and managed to securetwo points. The company, golf, weather, and food were all exceptional. Days like this are exactly why we love the Mulligan Larsen League so much.
